With experience in museum site administration, PR and development, combined with extensive knowledge of the visual arts and history, new media, and web design, I am poised to provide Museums and Galleries with professional project management, enhanced social media, and streamlined organization for the many moving parts behind the scenes.
Trident Gallery exhibits contemporary art from Cape Ann, Massachusetts in a rotating series of 5-week shows, supported by presentations and discussions. As Project Manager for various exhibitions, I provided assistance with social media, event planning, and mailings. I liaised with the Gallery’s PR firm and vendors. I worked with the objects in the Trident Gallery collection, and helped organize outreach and programming.
The Sargent House Museum is a fine example of high-style Georgian domestic architecture, built in 1782 for Judith Sargent (Stevens) Murray (1751-1820), a philosopher, writer and an early advocate of women’s equality. As the museum’s part-time Development Associate, I provided assistance with development planning, grant support, prospect management, membership, PR, social media, blog and website maintenance, event planning, and mailings. I worked with the objects in the Sargent House collection, and organized museum outreach, programming and fundraising events. In the 2013 season, I organized three performances of scenes from Judith Sargent Murray’s eighteenth-century plays at the House, managing vendors and partnering with a local theatre company. I have introduced and managed social media marketing for Sargent House, ensuring they have a growing presence on Facebook, Twitter, and other local channels. I work on preservation projects for the Museum including an NEH Division of Preservation and Access, Preservation Assistance Grant for Smaller Institutions: “Assessment of Climate Fluctuations”; as well as a preservation grant, “Needlepoint of ‘Cornelia and Gracchi’, c.1805-10.” I am fluent with both Mac and PC computer platforms and with databases including Past Perfect and FileMaker Pro.
As the site administrator during Summer 2012, I opened and closed the Sargent House Museum, lead tours, oversaw interns, increased site visibility (including social media), worked at museum outreach, fundraising and programming events, provided research and writing on the museum guide book, worked in gift shop, sold memberships, tracked visitor data, and managed the till.
I would be happy to discuss collaborating on several types of museum & gallery work: project management; exhibit design; public and educational programming; researching, writing and editing catalogues and/or exhibit scripts, interpretive signage, and object labels; as well as providing social media and web presence help to increase visibility.
